Tycoon is a free national competition that is open to all primaries, secondaries and FE colleges across the UK.

The process is simple: Think of a great idea for your business, either on your own or join forces with other students, complete your business plan and pitch your idea to your tutor. Every school or college has access to a Tycoon Start-up Loan of up to £1,000.

If successful in your bid for a Tycoon Start-up Loan, students will have one month in your business will commence trading and make a profit.

At the close of the competition, students will repay their original Tycoon Start-up Loan to the Tycoon Bank, and remaining profits can be used by the school, re-invested in the business to help it continue to grow or donated to local charitable causes.

The top student businesses are invited to a prestigious awards ceremony hosted by Peter Jones CBE each year!

What is the Tycoon programme?

Tycoon is a free national enterprise competition for schools across the UK. We have different competition categories for the different Key Stages and so anyone from 6 through to 18 years of age can take part. Whatever your age, you will follow a simple three stage process:

  1. Write a business plan
  2. Trade – and do your very best to  make a profit!
  3. Write an evaluation where you tell us a bit more about your business journey and the skills you have developed and demonstrated along the way.

One of the unique things about Tycoon, is that schools can access up to £1,000 as a goodwill loan to support Tycoon businesses which means students can be up and trading quickly and with no risk.

The best performing Tycoon teams in each Key Stage are invited to a prestigious annual awards ceremony hosted by Peter Jones CBE and so we hope to see you there!

Who can take part?

If you attend a school, college or alternative provision in the UK and are between the ages of 6 and 18, you can take part. Schools will need a teacher to lead the programme in school and they can get started straight away by registering here.
